Erm, in the original version, superman was a infinitely powerful being. He basically drew a breath and comsumed galaxies. Goku of course, is designed around reaching a limit, training and surpassing it.
In other words, Superman's two weaknesses are 1. His love for planet Earth and 2. His mental barriers (he's a nice guy who doesn't want to end existence as we know it). Goku on the other hand is only ever held back by pure strength (which he overcomes by getting beat, training and screaming (like seriously, after 2 seasons you'd think people would catch on, but nooooooooo they gotta make more, they gotta make more villains that seem unbeatable only to get beaten by another legendary ascended super mega ultra rasengan saiyan))
In all truth, the fight should hands down go to Superman; he can kill Goku easily.
The problem is, he doesn't want to and would probably lower himself to Goku's level.
This ofcourse would mean that as the battle goes on, Goku's level would increase.
And then as a consequence, Superman would have to give it more.
Then Goku's limits would increase.
And then Superman would have to give it more.
But wait? Isn't this a loop?
Goku is limitless in the fact that over time he can reach any level. He only ever physically improves.
Superman is limitless in the fact that if he wants, he can do anything. He only ever mental improves/(mentally holds back less)
If Superman wanted to end the fight in half a second, he could. But of course, that's not Superman. Superman would fight at Goku's level and Goku would never stop...because stopping aint Goku.
The fight wouldn't end. Superman wouldn't give up and Goku damn hell wouldn't either.
A real deabate would be Goku's mind in Superman's body versus One Punch Man (who basically is Goku's resilience, attitude and tenacity in Superman's body)
