Description of the character's personality: Rikuyo is a kind hearted person who goes out of her way to help others, but she also understands that on occasions a person must put their own needs above others. She's the type of person who does her best to keep certain emotions (sadness, grief, anger, etc.) bottled up inside as to not burden others with her own problems.) Due to all of her bottled up emotions, when she snaps from built up stress she is truly a force to be reckoned with. She is also very protective of those she deems family (this would be her fellow Clan members, friends, teachers, etc.), and her Village. She is not very girly, and will only get dressed up on special occasions as she deems it a waste of time. "Don't even get me started on clothes! It is pointless as a Shinobi to be worried about looks unless you're on an infiltration mission where you have to go undercover-!" Note: It is not recommended to wake her up unless you want a violent reaction, but if you're a masochist you're free to do so at your own risk.
Description of the character's history: Rikuyo is the only child of Sanjuro and Mayumi Kōkai, two civilians. Her surname, Kōkai, means "regret". When it came time for her to be enrolled either into a Civilian School or the Shinobi Academy, she told her parents of her dream to be a Kunoichi so that she would be able to proudly protect and fight for homeland. She knew what the answer was going to be, but she asked anyways. "No." Rikuyo's parent's had such hatred (second to none) for Shinobi, and it wasn't for reasons that most people assumed like the loss of a close friend or family member. No, it was simply because they believed the world had certain laws that were set in stone and that everything was supposed to be a certain way. Everything had to be 'natural', and the molding of Chakra was not something they considered normal despite the amount of people who used it and the fact that every living thing had Chakra in it.
Despite her parents protest and threats of being disowned, she entered the Academy anyways. It was her life to live, not theirs, and she was going to live her life to the fullest. With no regrets. Her very name seemed to try to bind her to focusing on any past mistakes she makes, but she was going to prove that a name could be more than its meaning. She was going to live by her Ninja Way (see "Nindo" above), and the only limit was herself.
After her first day of the Academy, despite how confident she was in her decision, she was too scared to go home and face her parents, so she spent the night at her friend's house. Early the next morning she walked home to quickly change her clothes before heading to the Academy, upon arriving at her home she found the front door to her small house wide open. Her mother always kept the door shut, and if Rikuyo didn't shut the door properly she'd get her ear scolded off. Not getting any closer to the house, Rikuyo searched the streets until she found a jōnin who was on his way to turn in a mission report, she frantically told him what she saw. He left her temporarily in the hands of a chūnin as he handled the situation.
After much investigation of her house by ninja, two bodies were found, her parents' corpses. It was speculated that Sanjuro and Mayumi Kōkai had went grocery shopping and once they returned home they found the front door was open, and instead of having Shinobi check the house for intruders, they went inside themselves asuming that whatever burgalar had come had already left. It was unknown if the killer was a shinobi or civilian, but all valuables in the house were stolen, including Rikuyo's parents' lives. The murderer was never found.
Even though she greatly misses her parent's she never let it stop her from pursuing her dream. As the only living Kōkai she was going to start her own clan, and give people with no one to turn to a family to call their own.
"Those who are kind seem to suffer the most, but it is because we have felt the pain of loss and mistreatment that we are able to be kind to others, and it is with the burden of knowing pain that we wish not to let anybody else experience it if we can help it."
