I've been using Brackets at my school, you might want to check that out.
I quite like it.
Link to Brackets.

Codecademy is great.

I know this post is extremely old, but.. let's be serious.. CodeAcademy only seems great. I mean, maybe on the HTML and CSS side they did a great job, but on PHP and MYSQL they didn't learn me anything (and yes, I've read all those outrageously-big walls of useless text)

I mean, I thought I knew so much after finishing all those hours-long tutorials, and was about to start a project. Guess what, didn't even know how to connect my website to a database using php... pretty lame. I recommend W3SCHOOLS.
I started working on a social network using php and mySQL, I don't have big plans with it, just want to test my knoweledge...

that's a good point, as I moved on further with programming I also started using W3SCHOOLS.
Another website I have been using recently is -Removed link-
This is not a coding site but that is besides the point

The one im using is SoloLearn. There are classes for every language you can think of and it is not just wright this code it worked good job. They actually explain why the code works and quiz you on your understanding of it. There is a community there as well with programming challenges to help you test what you know.

Github is a good place to learn. Not only do you have open source projects but there's also plenty of tutorial repositories.
In terms of text editors I'd suggest sublime text and for an IDE atom is great.
