So me and my friend was talking tactics about the game (PvP and kicking ass as a team) when he pointed out a very valid question "Would there be controller compatibility?" now this blew my mind that I didn't think of asking this earlier but would that be possible? If so adding that sort of thing to the game would make it easier to play for those who suck with key reaching.
If this has been asked waaaay back in the past I apologize.

Although I don't know if a controller has enough keys for you to be able to assign every movement button + all the seals. Keyboard will definitely the option even if controllers do get implemented.

This exactly. There's no way a controller would be easier. There will be way too many actions and a controller doesn't have enough buttons for them. Walking. Looking. Jumping. Hand Signs. Talking?. It's too problematic and pretty much impossible (to do all the actions). If controllers are implemented and you want to play the game being extremely limited, be my guest lel

As said above, controllers will be ridiculous to use in the actual MMO version of the game. In the current version, I use a controller with Xpadder and it works fine, but I personally wouldn't recommend it. I only use it because I dont have enough space to move my mouse up. In the end, keyboard is going to be the best.
-
lol, well i not sure what else to add as everything as been said. But, i agree keyboard all the way.

Personally a controller might work. At the moment there are three hand seals. I'm going to make an example with an Xbox controller.
A could be jump (Right Click)
RT could be attack (Left Click)
Left bumper could speed you up (Shift + move mouse up)
Right stick could be move around
Left stick could be look around
Right bumper could be the dodge so you could hold down the right bumper and move the right stick to the left to dodge left etc (Space)
This could work but it would be really complicated. Just an idea.

How would it work with 12 seals?

This has 6 buttons which would cover half the seals and if you're a pro you could probably still win with those 6 seals casting limited jutsu. Im not saying force controller controls but have it as an option later on in the game maybe? Depending how much time it would take to code this option.

Or, on that controller, have a button on the side. When you hold this button down, it makes the buttons do the last six handseals instead of the first six. It would be very hard to get used to, however. Not saying I would use a controller, just adding on to Leebz's idea.

Alright 1-6 buttons = the hand signs. Well there goes 6 out of the 14~ buttons. The analog sticks are movement and camera.
Alright, let's recap: 1-6 for 6 hand signs and the analog sticks for movement/camera. You're limited to jutsus that are 6 or less hand signs.
Jumping? Increasing speed? Cancel the jutsu and hand signs?
It's literally impossible to implement everything onto a controller unless it is covered in buttons, and at that point you might as well use a keyboard because it'd be easier lol.
As I said earlier, if the controller is added, be my guest to use it just know that you'll be at a major disadvantage. I mean major.
-
You forgot the bumper buttons, triggers, analogs being pressed in (like how you run on fps games on consoles) and the arrow keys.
In fact Xen, if controller gets added as an option, ill happily end you in battle using them controls <3
Also as I said before, if you're pro enough you don't need all jutsu at hand for a single battle. a single 3 move rotation could easily win against someone mixing and randomly spamming all of their moves.
-
Bruh you're still not understanding lol.
I did include the bumpers etc. in my button count and 14~ buttons just simply aren't enough. Also, I am not saying that you need a ton of jutsus for battle lol infact nothing I said should have given you that thought. You're thinking to hard about my posts.
As I have said the past TWO TIMES, if you want to use the controller (IF it is added) be my guest, you'll be at a MAJOR DISADVANTAGE.
Facts are facts. I can more easily move around, change my camera as well as perform a jutsu with my mouse and keyboard than you'll ever be able to on a controller.
-
Just to make this clear, this is a list of the controls at the moment:
Walk: W A S D
Adjust speed: hold shift – hold w – move mouse forwards
Jump: Right click
Dodge left: Space + A
Dodge right: Space + D
Back flip: While at 35km/h+ press Space + S
Attack: Left click
Cancel jutsu: F
Cancel hand seals: E
Hide cursor: P
Chidori: H -> O -> I
Fire breath (Unfreezing): I -> O -> H
God Breath: OIHO
Amaterasu: OIHIO
So you need to use: WASD(this is a single button on a controller), Shift, mouse(for camera angle adjustment), Right click, Left click, Space combined with movement to dodge, F, E, P, H, O, I. So with just 3 seals implemented so far, playing the game with a controller already takes 12 buttons, aka almost a full controller. If I were you I'd get onto playing with keyboard.
On top of all that, keyboards users will have all the seals in one place(probably the numpad area). Controllers users would have all their seals scattered across the controller because there's no controller that can fit all of them in once place.

M4 my pic shows a 6 button controller rather than the average 4 button one.
Ok, let me use the controller I posted to show all this
Move: Right analog
Camera: Left analog
Sprint: Push in right analog button whilst moving forward, letting up when you get to the speed you want
Hand signs: the 6 buttons (Limited jutsu not a problem for me personally)
Dodge right: Right bumper
Dodge left: Left bumper
Jump: Left trigger
Attack: Right trigger
Cancel jutsu: Left button
Cancel handsign: Right button
And if I counted right that is all controls needed other than half handsigns which isnt a problem for casting half jutsu.
Its easy to use that controller I posted for this game and Xen I personally wouldn't be at a disadvantage if you plan on spamming all your jutsu like a fool. I would be LIMITED yes, but disadvantage? No.
-
And how many people have that type of controller rather than the 4 buttons one? How many people would get one in the first place when they already have the perfect input device in their homes, aka keyboard? For the sake of this discussion I'd still remain at the controller most people have, not pass on to some design that's almost not existent in the real world.
And not only would you be limited, you'd be at a total disadvantage for you'd only have half an arsenal. Even though you keep talking about being pro enough, even pros need a good arsenal. You'd probably end up dying in the first battles for:
-Your keyboard user opponent has infinitely more maneuverability
-Having access to all the hand seals he has a way wider array of jutsu
Keyboard is the way to go for those who want to be pro at this game.
-
I just suggested and proved it is possible to have a playable controller. I never thought such a stupid debate would start over this xD
If they aren't put in, fine, but I am saying it is still easily possible to use a controller and win. Just saying. Nothing more.
-
As someone using a controller, I can tell you that is false. My controls are a bit weird but they work well enough for me.
Left stick - WASD
Right stick - Mouse
Right Trigger - Shift
Left Trigger - Space
A Button - Right Click
B Button - Left Click
Y Button - F
X Button - E
D-Pad - Up: H, Right: O, Down: I.
Even with the six buttons, it wont matter. The jutsus have nothing to do with it. There will be many other controls, and most of the entire keyboard used. So, in addition to having limited jutsu, you will also have limited maneuverability. In the current SLO version, there are a lot of things that are difficult for me already. Lining up with enemies for jousts is extremely hard because the left stick isn't perfect. Running is STUPID hard because I have to hold the right trigger + move both analog sticks up. I know I don't have the most efficient controls, but they're still controls. People using keyboards, however, can move their mouse at different speeds, therefore allowing them to turn their camera however they want, while my stick is set to a constant sensitivity. They can also move much more fluidly. In reality, you aren't going to win against anyone with a controller in the final version.
I know you meant to suggest a way that a controller could be implemented, but it really can't. It is not "easily possible" to use a controller and win. You were not able to prove your point either. How many people are going to get that controller just for one game when they have a keyboard, anyway?
Sorry if this came off as rude, it had no intention to be. But there are no valid points whatsoever.
Also, you'll never beat Xen because he is baby jesus.

Was refraining from saying this, but yea.
I would be LIMITED yes, but disadvantage? No.

I sort glass. That's my job.

No offence but you guys aren't accepting any viewpoint except your own.
-
I read the entire thread, accepting and reading all the information. Heck, I am in the camp of the opposing side. I still dont agree. I dont really understand how that isn't accepting other viewpoints lel. There just are no valid points, that's all.
I dont think there's a way to write a five paragraph response without accepting other viewpoints xDD

Shadow bro this is old news. No need to go on kiddo.
