Title: Map
Post by: Mars on December 22, 2015, 20:15:53
Many buildings are being made, as shown on Matt's channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4TXOELnYbOqR2l-TxIkg3g/videos

I don't understand why they haven't been implemented into the map yet?
Digital isn't my area of expertise when it comes to modelling kappa

But from basic deduction, surely it can't be hard to throw some of those buildings on a map? This would lead to more fun gameplay.
Any answers are appreciated, though more so from people with experience in 3D modelling

Wait, why did I get called?
I've never done real 3D modeling o.O

The only thing I did 3D-orientated was Cinema 4D making Text/Logo's in 3D which only uses a built-in tool and a few customization options.

As for why it isn't implemented, I'll just rephrase what Eternal Eyes said in the Shoutbox, Vreg has been busy with the site. It should be close to done after that he will start working on the game again.

Unsure how hard it would be to implement Houses on the map we currently have, iirc the current map was made by someone else.

Well from what I know getting them into the actual map is not hard at all. What is complicated, are the bugs that have to be resolved after this. Not only resolving bugs but to find the reason behind them too. (Ex. of bugs: parts of the building missing like walls or rooftops; misalignment between the models and the surface, they may be above the ground, under the ground or they may fall at certain points or start flying; the interaction between characters and the buildings, by this I mean bugs like passing through walls, not being able to stand on the rooftops, being able to hide inside walls as well as crashing the game at the interaction with the buildings; these are a few examples)

I'm not 100% of the truth behind this, but along my (real) experience, I encountered such problems.

Buildings are being textured, not made. about 60 buildings have been made months ago.

It is easy to throw these textured buildings in to the game, but the team is working on the village right now. You know, fences, barrels, boxes rocks trees, an arrangment for these buildings and all of that.

We preffer putting these buildings into the game all at once and as a proper village.

However, if I see the progress of that is slow, I will ask vreg to put the buildings into the game while we work on the rest.

Yeah basically that^ we would prefer to release the village in more completed chunks rather than just a couple of buildings scattered on a map that obviously hasn't been designed for them. However that doesn't mean we wont release anything at all until its all 100% completed. What i was thinking would be to release the village in quarter sections, after the base environment (hills trees etc) has been laid out. To illustrate what I'm saying here's some extremely basic building placements i was doing for Raf a couple of months back for what the first quarter might look like

Would it be better to shape the terrain and then make a defensible spot? Hidden hill
might end up with enemies among bands of small villages

Not really. Fuuna shuriken is a fictional weapon, invented by someone only for esthetic looks, it has no applicability in real life. It wouldn't work. A real shuriken would spin the direction Matt used for his shuriken. In Naruto it spins the opposite way as it's sharpened on "the wrong side". So it doesn't really matter and it's not an important problem: all he has to do is turn it upside down and the shuriken would spin the opposite direction.

You really enjoy reviving dead topics, don't you?
