Will you be able to dmg your own team mates like cause a fireball jutsu explodes and your friend just so happens to be chillin there would he get hurt. Might put a interesting dynamic into the game
-
I hope so. It's posibble to hit your team mate "accidently". (better if you start to fear Sagashima :D )
-

We're probably going to work with safe zones (i.e. no fighting in an official village), but where you can attack others, you can attack your comrades.

I dont think friendly fire should be included unless youre doing a PVP battle. It'll get really ugly...
Or maybe have it where you can activate a PvE mode for those that want to do it. But I know I'd be pissed if I were just about to kill a boss and some asshole shoots a fireball and "accidently" kills us both.

You've got to always watch your back buddy. Now that we're talking about dieing, what if I only allowed you to die once?

If we only got one life then that would lead to a lot of problems and complaints on your end depending on how its handled.
IE: If i die, do i lose all of my items, or do they get transferred to a new character? Do i have to start back over at level 1, or does this new character pick up on whatever level I last was, etc.
At the end of the day with friendly fire included you'll have people going around killing others and you'll have an endless stream of complaints and requests for old characters back.

I meant like character is deleted forever. That would put a trust no one feel into the game. And a constant awareness feel into the game. And people would truly fear the strong ones.
-
Some people would like that, and some people would not.
Which is why i think a Permanent death feature should be implemented in a separate server if anything.

That's a great idea! Like only official people (like myself) will be allowed to host such servers for security reasons (when we won't have dedicated servers).

I definitely understand the dynamic that would bring to the game, but still. At the very least I think that if you pledge your allegiance to a village then that should automatically make everybody from that village a no-friendly-fire target. I mean damn.. I get the whole trust no one thing, but I should at least be able to trust the people from my village. How are we supposed to build strong nations if everyone in the village is divided? That'd be too much chaos. How are we supposed to complete a mission if at any given moment that my health is low, i have to worry about them killing me for my xp/gear?
Now if you really hate somebody in your village that much and you really just want to attack them, i think you should have to renounce your village, and become a missing-nin. You then lose that village no-friendly-fire immunity and you can attack. Of course this should mean you can never join that village again.
Some people would like that, and some people would not.

I didnt know how many servers there would be. That was actually gonna be one of my questions. The other being how many characters per server you can create.

So I won't be able to attack one of the big villages every once in a while just to fail miserably?? :'( :'(

Yeah sorry, that would be too reckless. I think it would be possible though when we get a system where a village gets attacked by another village.

I think friendly fire must be enabled because there are lots of double faced people in the world, and therefore also in our realistic simulation. Even in the Naruto world, look at Kabuto in the beginning, he was hostile, but pretended to be one of the good guys. Of course this friendly attacking is only possible outside the village where it's not safe. In a real life scenario no one would be stupid enough to do an open attack inside a village whether he's an enemy or a pretend friend, so attacking in a village is disabled in general.
And the servers will initially be hosted by users, I'm going to make this as safe as possible. But this is our only option for now since we haven't seen any serious funding yet. If we get serious funding at some point (my guess is that this is only possible if Shinobi Life Online is at least what I want to be in version 1.2.0), then we can do dedicated servers that will be able to support numbers like 1000 players simultaneously. With this user hosting system, servers will only be able to go up to 200 simultaneously (I think, probably less).
But this won't be too big of a deal because at version 1.2.0 Shinobi Life Online won't be an RPG yet, so having massive servers at that time won't really be necessary. By the time Shinobi Life Online is an actual MMOARPG, I'm hoping (and I think) we'll have enough funding for dedicated servers.
What I was saying is, maybe we'll do something like death servers (only hostable by Shinobi Life Online staff) where everything is 2x, but getting killed also gets your character permanently deleted from our database.
Oh and now that we're talking character, every account (Shinobi Life Online website account) will have one character linked to it. This character will be cross-server.
-
So, Vreg, since you'll be Shinobi Life Online's sage will you be allied with a village or you'll be wandering around kinda like Jiraiya?
And will you be killable by players or you'll be way too powerful??
And yeah, I agree that friendly fire should be enabled in order to make people take care with what they're doing, not just random spawn all jutsus they got.
-
Friendly fire is a good thing I think, you can get betrayed at any time meaning that everyone will be alert at all times >:D

I won't be Shinobi Life Online's sage. In our new story, which will be published some time in the future, my role will be more like the reason of peace between nations. I'll be someone with a power similar to Rinnegan.
Players will be able to kill me, I won't make myself invincible. But you'll need an army of players to take me down :) In the story you'll notice that my existence in Shinobi Life Online's world is not 100% certain, people don't really know if I exist. So I'll be wandering from place to place, and maybe one day settle down in some village.

i also think friendly fire should be on XD(more fun when u dont know your teammate is a traitor)

Honestly, I feel that would divide the nonpermadeath players from the permadeath players too much, so do one or the either IMO. I myself don't like permadeath, yet my favorite game as of now is permadeath, so you get used to it over time.
-
By now it's been decided to make permadeath for all.

I don't know how I feel about this... The reason I say this is because I feel like a cool down time is a better idea. I think if you have any sort of dying limit/ban it should be a temporary thing. Otherwise the people who die will get veeeeery mad and bring down the way people view the game. BTW It'll suck sooooo bad if I die while I'm recording a series on this game. I'd have to redo everything. This is something you might wanna start a poll for.

Unfortunately (for you), Shinobi Life Online is a very serious game. When I started the project, I wanted to create a world similar to that of Naruto's, including the amount of danger and suspense. Letting people only live once (YOLO), would certainly result for an amount suspense and danger I want people to feel when being in a dangerous situation in the Shinobi Life Online world.
-
Silly question's but will the NPC's be able to attack?. Like example having Tsunade or Some village guards auto attack any threats to the village( eg. Missing Nin, Beasts, or village enemies) etc.

I understand. But, the thing I'm worried about is how people in this community will react once they die. Which is why I brought up the poll.
-
kinda depends on the person. A lot of the people here now have come to terms with it, lol. In my original post on the topic I was against it, but now I'm pro yolo. Its realistic and keeps you on edge. Not to mention, Vreg did say its not like its going to be super easy for you to die.. its really going to take some effort to be killed.
Besides, how would you react playing the game, knowing way ahead of time that if you die, that's it? You know the risks, lol. It's not like you weren't warned.
But Vreg, I do have a question though. As far as dying is concerned, lets say I was murdered and there were 2 witnesses. Who would they tell and what would happen to my murderer? Being realistic at that point they would either have to run away and become a missing nin, or return to the village and face possible jail time.. so my question is how does being caught murdering someone translate in Shinobi Life Online?
-
Why would a witness get possible jail time?
This is how it will work:
Say someone is about to murder someone else, another guy knowing he'd die by interfering is watching from a distance. But he's close enough to see the face of the murderer and that of the victim. When the murder takes place, this 3rd party will get a prompt asking him to remember the murder. If this 3rd party chooses to remember the murder, he can report later report it in any official village. But only if he chooses to remember the murder. Because then the Shinobi Life Online System will save the murderer's and victim's "faces" in this 3rd party's hypothetical brain. And after he makes a report, special shinobi in the official village he reported to can extract the faces from the 3rd party's hypothetical brain and identify the murderer and victim. Resulting in the murderer getting registered in the international bingo book.
-
LOL!! Not the witness going to jail; the murderer. I guess I shouldve phrased the question better, but you answered it the way I meant though. Thanks.
