Title: SLO Maps/World opinions. DISCUSS!TIME!

Hey it just came to my mind the game's map, what should it be best? i know this might have already decided, but if not here it is....

I haven't really seen any game with an amazingly big map, the games I've played are divided with portals or doors or something like that.... what do you think? maybe you step on a scroll at the edge of a map and you keep going on the other side of the piece of the world? i didn't even understand myself.

so I'm just throwing this up to discuss a bit about the maps.

The forest or outside of the towns, the division of lands between villages, we all know the villages are named based on their landscape, environment and so on. The forests, the sand, lava, etc,  have to end at some time.
Which would be the land that each village owns, should it be a wall between them or just like in Naruto Universe that there is nothing between villages.

Using a metric base system (whatever you want)  what should it be fair to be the amount of land that each village owns.
Mini villages, small town around the SLO world?, maybe a small ramen shop for travelers, and their owner is the kage of the closest village?

Also the trees,rock and static things in the world, will it be a good idea to have big trees around the maps?  I mean really big trees, there would be normal trees big enough to be running on them,  but also some big ass trees, such as the ones you can see in the forest of death in Naruto.
(I'm just throwing questions, what do you think!? don't just look at this without posting below!)

Alright, it answers my first opinion, I just want this post to discuss a bit about the maps, Vreg might have changed his mind, that post is pretty old. I'll change the topic name since it is not just about that....  pre name.....-Big Map? or Divided with portals?-

Right!? it would be pretty neat,but it would also sadly affect negatively the performance.

Yeah, i hope there will only be a portal when you log in and etc. One big map with no portals will make it more realistic and that is the aim of this project.

yeah, a huge map with  a limited view/loading distance, it could happen... more realistic and really cool....

Portals will be needed. (Portals not having to be some glowing circle black hole that you need to jump through but an invisible barrier or a gate that once stepped over takes you to a loading screen to enter that area) The only reason is that a big map that's not split into area zones would lag the shit out of common computer users such as myself. This would be due to the one big map containing so much content and like 2000 members in game at a time

There will be no portals and no teleportation (besides a possible forbidden jutsu for a handful of people). If your village, clan's base or anything you care about gets attacked, being far away means you might not make it in time.

Could still be a big map with area loadings. Like WoW, you can travel anywhere by foot but loading screens will take you to different areas of paths so its not one big generated area with thousands of players needed to be buffered.. I didn't explain this well at all but hopefully someone sees where I'm coming from xD

I see what you mean, it´s basically when you walk into another region it loads that region. (if you look at the other region from the border of the region you're standing in you still see that region a little) This isn't really understandable either, but hey, at least I tried :P

@Leebz that sounds as a good idea!.. a good alternative to portals.  that way the game is not really gonna consume lots of resources, @Vreg  didn't really say what it is gonna be like!?!?! but he's got a good sense of gaming so i'll trust what he choices.....

I am not sure if this has already been said or anything like that so please excuse me if i am what i say may sound stupid. But anyways i feel like if world is not open world then when orgs attack village it will be incredibly less dynamic because the org will all have to load into the village where as if it was open world there would be no load screen separating worlds. and we all know that without load screens then that means more jumping over walls.


More exploding/jumping over village a walls = more fun
load screen = wanting to kill oneself
